Tsu-ba-ki (in Japanese) is botanically well known as Camellia Japonica.
It blooms in early spring. It has been favored by people in Japan since 8th century, particularly during Samurai era. The beauty of Japonica, simplicity, purity, and tranquility, fits on spiritual cultivation of Japanese society. Japonica is also often used for tea ceremony in Japan which requires strict meditating atmosphere.
Camellia oil contains high oleic acid which is more effective in reducing cholesterol than olive oil, and recently it has become clear that Camellia oil is so beneficial for our health. We find it today as cooking oil, hair oil, and skin care products. As Alabama picked it up for their state flower, Japonica’s popularity has been growing throughout the world, including, here, in Rehoboth Beach.
